Our Story

I created Summit Roots to help people step out of the everyday and into the wild. Whether it’s a one-day micro-adventure or a multi-day hike through hills, mountains, forests, or woodlands, our aim is the same: to explore, reconnect, and grow.

A Lifelong Passion

I'm Mark and spending time in nature has been a constant in my life for over 30 years. During the Covid lockdowns, I made the decision to turn that passion into something more. I began training seriously to keep myself and others safe in the mountains, to learn more about the environment, and to transition from a long corporate executive career to becoming a qualified Mountain Leader.

I have the following qualifications:

  • Mountain Leader (Mountain Training Association's highest level hiking qualification)

  • NNAS Gold (National Navigation Award Scheme)

  • Outdoor First Aid Qualified (Band 3, the recognised standard for outdoor leaders)

  • North Downs Way Ambassador

I am currently working towards a qualification in Nature connectedness from the University of Derby having done several day and weekend courses in this field, learning more about the science and how to practically bring nature and the environment into the hikes.
